COVID Health and Safety Protocols

Up to Date as of May 1, 2023

 Health and Safety Information

COVID 2023 at Nyoda

The CDC has not yet released the guidelines for camps regarding COVID for the summer of 2023. However, we have put together our plan for this summer, based on current policies. Please be advised that it may change when the CDC guidelines are released.

The general statements below are the guidelines currently in place by the CDC and the American Camping Association. This is also in compliance with the Jefferson Township Office of the New Jersey Board of Health, which is the office Nyoda reports to in all health matters:

  • A person exposed to COVID does not need to quarantine.

  • A positive COVID test will require 5 days of home care.

  • A person with lingering symptoms must mask for 5 days after quarantining.

  • A person who is symptom free after 5 days does not require masking.

Along with the Jefferson Township Office of the New Jersey Board of Health, Nyoda plans to put into effect the following protocols for the summer of 2023:

  • At home testing before Opening Day will not be required.

  • A camper with any COVID symptoms on Opening Day will not be permitted to move in. There will be a brief screening by the nurse at check in. A camper presenting with COVID symptoms will need to have a negative PCR in order to return. Please call camp prior to Noon on Sunday if your child is not well.

  • Although exposure does not require quarantining, Nyoda will insist on precautions including hand washing and sanitizing, alternate head sleeping, and not sharing items. We will no longer separate the bungalow or any girls in contact with a positive COVID camper.

  • If a camper has a fever regardless of other symptoms, she must go home. In order to return she must have a negative PCR COVID test and be fever free for 24 hours, whatever the diagnosis. (i.e. strep, flu)

A camper with three or more of the following symptoms will need to see a physician; either our camp practice or her own personal pediatrician. If she has any of the following symptoms and has been exposed to COVID the nurse will determine the course of action:

  • Cough

  • Runny nose

  • Fever

  • Headache

  • Sore throat

If a camper tests positive for COVID she must stay at home for 5 days. She may return to camp after 5 days if she is fever free AND for the next 5 days will:

  • Wear a mask when inside the bungalow or other building

  • Eat at a separate table outside the dining hall (on the porch).

  • Be re-evaluated in three days and then five days by the nursing staff.

  • Have a doctor visit after 5 days if she is still coughing to determine if she needs to mask longer.

  • The option of staying home from camp for the entire 10 days is available.

Before Camp

We expect every camper to come to camp healthy. Therefore, please monitor your camper’s behavior and exposure to illness for the 10 days prior to her arrival at camp. Low risk exposure, staying outdoors, and avoiding large crowded events helps prevent contracting any illness. Notify us if she has any symptoms of COVID or any other airborne illness, and plan to keep her at home until she is symptom free.
