What is a cohort group?
A cohort group is your daughter’s bungalow, including counselors.
Does my daughter need to be tested?
Yes. We require a PCR test 72 hours prior to camp, with the printed results to be turned in to the Nursing Department on Opening Day. Practice low risk behavior and limit exposure to unvaccinated people after the test. At this time, we are planning to test everyone again 5-7 days into the first week of camp.
Do I have to do anything else prior to camp?
Yes. A 14-day pre-screening form needs to be completed daily and brought to camp for your daughter’s file. It is found HERE, in the forms section of registration, and has been emailed to you. (June) Please practice low risk behavior with your daughter for the 14 days of the pre-screening period. Special care must be taken for the days after testing. Please refer to Nyoda's COVID Definitions and A Healthy Camp Starts at Home.
Will my daughter have to wear a mask at all times?
No. When campers are with their cohort group, whether in the bungalow or outside, they will not need a mask. We do not anticipate needing masks at the following times:
-
While swimming
-
Showering
-
When doing high level physical energy (i.e., dance, tennis)
-
While seated in the dining room and eating a meal
-
In a boat when seated the appropriate distance from the other paddler
-
During their riding lesson
-
Sleeping
The girls will need to wear a mask at the following times:
-
When mixing cohort groups
-
Walking to meals
-
At activities where instruction is not the required physical distance away
What happens if my daughter shows symptoms of COVID-19?
If your daughter presents with two or more symptoms of COVID-19 that are not listed as common to her on her medical form, we will call and ask you to take her home to be tested. You can view the Nursing form to be used if a child exhibits symptoms HERE. If the test is negative, she must remain at home until 24 hours after her symptoms resolve. If it is positive, she must remain at home for 10 days and her symptoms are resolved. Girls whose parents are not available must have a designated person for pick up if necessary.
What happens if someone in my daughter’s bungalow has symptoms of COVID?
We have organized camp into cohort groups to minimize exposure. However, we realize that within a bung group a COVID case may occur. In that case, the child with symptoms will be sent home. The bungalow will be cleaned and sanitized. The rest of the bungalow group will be placed in a “shadow camp” where they will still have camp activities and camp fun but will remain separated from the rest of the campers. We are lucky to have many different outdoor spaces for the girls to enjoy. They will have an altered schedule to allow them to swim, boat, do crafts, archery and dance and other camp activities but not with others. They will be supervised by their counselors as part of the cohort group. The entire group will be observed and monitored for COVID-19 symptoms and tested appropriately. Once the currently mandated quarantine period has ended they will be returned to a full camp schedule.
What if we have to travel to get to New Jersey?
Please see the Travel Protocol page.
What if we are on vacation and not at home prior to camp?
Please see the Vacation section on the Travel Protocol page.
Will the cohort groups stay the same for the entire summer?
The cohort group will remain the same (i.e., the bungalow group). However, we will have activities with camp as a whole, using physical distancing and if necessary, masks, in order for the girls to be together. Once we have tested and have a healthy camp we will co-mingle cohorts as is reasonably safe.
How will the dining room work?
We are erecting a 30 x 60 tent outside the dining room and will be seating half the campers and counselors inside and half in the tent. This will give us the physical distancing we need between cohort groups.
Are there changes to Opening Day?
We will be altering our Opening Day procedure. Parents will not be entering the center of camp. All luggage will be picked up from the parking lot and taken to the bungalow. A camper will have a medical check in accompanied by her parent. Family good-byes will be after check in is completed and parents have met the counselors and gone through the move-in checklist with them. Families will receive a schedule the week before Opening Day as entry will be staggered so as to avoid a large group of people in the parking lot at the same time.
What about Visiting Day?
In accordance with the Opening Day policy, we will not have our traditional Visiting Day. We will be providing campers with the opportunity to Zoom, Skype, FaceTime, or phone chat with family during the Visiting Day weekend. A schedule will be sent in advance so you can plan your time. This will most likely be done in bung or cohort groups so that parents have the opportunity to get an update from their camper's counselors as well. Campers signed up for two weeks and therefore going home on Visiting Day will be picked up at 10 am.
